Boost Windshield Strength with an Auto Glass Ceramic Coating in Edmonds

glass ceramic coating edmondsMost car owners don’t think twice about applying wax to their car’s surface. This is car care 101 for protecting the paint. What about the windshield? This part of the vehicle can benefit from a coating of its own. We suggest an auto glass ceramic coating.

What Is Ceramic Coating?

Glass ceramic coating is a clear coating made from nano-ceramic. After application and curing, the substance becomes a tough yet flexible solid shield. Glass ceramic coating also exists for the paint, though this post focuses on the coating for the windshield. In recent years, auto glass ceramic coating has become a standard in vehicle detailing.

Ceramic Coating Benefits

Why does the windshield need a protective barrier in the first place? The benefits are three-fold.

For one, the coating improves visibility, especially during rainy weather, by repelling raindrops. Second, the coating makes the glass easier to clean. Dirt and grime lightly cling to the surface instead of becoming encrusted into the glass.

Finally, the coating makes the windshield as a whole appear “cleaner.” Have you ever stepped back after cleaning the car and noticed the windshield has streaks or just looks off? A ceramic coating makes this a nonissue; when you apply the coating, the nanostructure fills in any visible imperfections in the glass.

What About DIY Kits?

You can find kits at your local Pep Boys. However, application requires multi-stage preparation, such as buffing, claying, and keeping the surface clean while curing. If any of the steps go wrong, it can hamper the end results.

The Benefits of Uber Car Detailing in Lynnwood

Uber car detailing lynnwoodAre you an Uber driver or do you plan to become one? Here’s a special post for you. As a driver making money off your vehicle, you have to keep the car in presentable condition. This is why we recommend detailing your Uber car. We’ll go over how a simple detailing can enhance your ability to earn a living.

Uber Car Detailing Boosts Your Ratings

Passengers rate their Uber driver. Drivers with ratings below a 4.6 are no longer on good terms with the company. Various factors contribute to a good rating, such as professionalism, courtesy, willingness to make small talk, etc. Another factor is the comfort of the ride. Passengers may not feel comfortable if the car interior appears outdated, has shaggy upholstery, or has odors.

Many drivers can attest that the occasional passenger spills a drink or vomits on the upholstery. A vehicle detail can remove stains and traces of passengers’ expelled bodily fluids.

We also recommend a wash and wax to help the vehicle stand out during daylight hours. A shiny and sparkly exterior should earn you a few positive tick marks.

Uber May Reimburse Cleaning Fees

In some cases, Uber covers car cleaning fees for messes caused by the passenger. As soon as the mess occurs, take multiple photos of it and report it to the company. Be sure to keep the cleaning receipt as well. We aren’t in the Uber business, so we suggest speaking to an actual Uber driver or representative to learn more about cleaning reimbursements.

We Detail Uber Cars Inside and Out

The car is the lifeblood of an Uber driver. Bring your vehicle to Henry’s Auto Detail to restore the interior and exterior to acceptable customers’ standards. Detailing an Uber car just might bump up your scores; passengers may even give you a higher-than-usual tip. Contact us today!

Remove Bug Splatter from Your Vehicle in Woodway

remove bug splatter WoodwayAccording to insect identification, over 300 known species of bugs exist in the state of Washington. Insects seem to be everywhere in the fall season. If you commute long enough, you’ll eventually end up with bug remnants on your windshield or paint. We’ll explain how to remove bug splatter from your car without damaging the paint or glass.

Acquire a Bug Remover Spray

The first step is to buy a bug remover spray, which you can find at your local automotive store. The conventional WD-40 spray works as a bug remover as well. You can also opt for a homemade remedy by placing a dryer sheet in a spray bottle with water.

Remove the Bug Splatter

You should remove bug splatter when it’s still fresh. Once the guts and gunk harden, you may not be able to remove the remnants without damaging the paint. In this instance, you’ll need to restore the surface at a professional auto detailer.

While the bug splatter is still fresh, spray the bug remover on a towel and place the towel over the splatter for about three minutes. Remove the towel and wipe the stain away using a microfiber material. We recommend a microfiber mesh sponge or squeegee.

We also recommend cleaning the entire car after removing the splatter. This ensures you remove any remaining traces of critter residue. Top this off by waxing the car. Car wax provides a coating that prevents insect splat from bonding with the auto paint.

We Remove Bug Remnants from Woodway Vehicles

You will encounter insects everywhere in the Woodway area during the fall season. Whether the splatter is a common housefly or the rarer blinded sphinx moth, remove the stain ASAP. Bring your vehicle to Henry’s Auto Detail to remove bug splatter and other remnants that bond with the car paint. Contact us today for more information!

How to Remove Brake Dust from Your Hubcaps in Mill Creek

brake dust Mill CreekDirty hubcaps stick out like a sore thumb. As a resident of Mill Creek, do you wonder how do they become so dirty in the first place? The fact that they’re so close to the ground is partially the cause. The primary factor, though, is the brake dust that emanates from the brake pad.

What Is Brake Dust?

Brake dust consists of grayish-black particles that coat the tires and hubcaps. When the iron brake rotor grinds against the brake pads, small shavings of the metal end up on the hubcaps. The dust is essentially a combination of iron and carbon residue. While this residue on your wheels is an eyesore, it is normal and not indicative of anything wrong with the brakes.

Prevention

Most factory-installed brake pads are made from metal. However, you can upgrade to aftermarket pads made from ceramic. These pads still produce dust, but is light-colored, so it’s almost invisible to the naked eye. You can also reduce this residue by installing dust shields that go on the back of the wheels.

Brake Dust Removal

Brake dust is corrosive and can eat into the clear coating of aluminum alloy surfaces. This is why we highly recommend a vehicle detail that includes a thorough tire cleaning. A full restoration includes the wheels.

Some car owners may try to remove the dust using a hose and bucket with a sponge and liquid soap. This usually suffices, but may not always be effective, depending on the hubcaps’ coating and finish. You may also not be able to fully remove brake dust that has been collecting undisturbed on the surface for a while.

Removing Tree Sap From Your Car in Edmonds

removing tree sap EdmondsWith summer here, more car owners are parking their vehicles under trees to keep them in the shade. This is a wise strategy; however, the owner often returns to find tree sap on the hood or windshield. We’ll go over the steps for removing tree sap from your car in Edmonds. Improper removal technique can result in paint damage.

Remove Tree Sap the Right Way

Since tree sap is sticky, the natural tendency is to scrape off the gunk using a sharp object like your car keys. This is a mistake. We don’t recommend any scraping, not even with a blunter object like a credit card.

We do recommend washing and waxing your car once in a while. This adds a protective layer that makes it easier to remove sap while minimizing damage.

Step-By-Step Removal Process

1. Wash the sap spot using hot water, car wash soap and a soft brush. The heat from the water will soften the sap.

2. Use hand sanitizer, nail polish remover, mineral spirits, or alcohol wipes to remove the tree sap.

3. Wipe the area clean using a microfiber cloth.

4. Wash the car thoroughly as you normally would to remove all traces of residue.

What If the Sap Has Hardened?

Sometimes, you don’t spot the sap on your car until several days or weeks after it lands on the car’s surface. By then, the sap has hardened, and you may not be able to remove it using the above steps. In this case, bring the car to a professional vehicle detailer.

Removing Tree Sap from Cars in Edmonds

The Edmonds area is home to many sap-producing tree species. This is why sap removal is one of our many specialties. If you spot sap anywhere on your vehicle, bring your car to Henry’s Auto Detail for a full restoration. We remove tree sap from cars no matter how sticky or hardened the residue has become.

A 101 Guide to Professional Tire Dressing in Lynnwood

professional tire dressing LynnwoodTire dressing is a broad term that describes any type of substance designed to give the tire sidewall a glossy shine. Professional tire dressing is a regular part of vehicle detailing; doing it yourself may cause more harm than good to the tires.

Professional Tire Dressing at a Glance

Tire dressing should not be confused with tire cleaning. 2-in-1 tire dressing and cleaning sprays do exist. However, the process itself doesn’t clean the tires. It is purely aesthetic. Some variants, though, do contain compounds with UV protection. Dressing sprays come in two varieties, solvent-based and water-based. Both contain silicone as a key ingredient. This is what provides the gloss and shine.

Solvent Dressing

Silicone dissolves easily into solvent, creating a more pronounced and longer-lasting shine. Solvents, though, may also contain petroleum, which can prematurely dry and crack the tire surface. Solvent can also be tacky, allowing dirt and grime to accumulate on the surface.

Water Dressing

Water dressing is made from synthetic polymers and natural oils. This produces a finish with a satin-like quality. Water-based dressing is also more environmentally safe. Most also contain surfactants, which keep the emulsion stable, but also causes the shine to wear off easily. Expect the need for more frequent applications with a water-based dressing.

Don’t Spray on the Treads

Regardless of the type you use, never spray on the treads. Dressing sprays are intended for the sidewalls only. Spraying on the treads reduces the tires’ traction. This advice is mainly intended for motorcycles, but we believe it should extend to cars.

We’ll Dress Your Tires

Has your car seen better days? Bring your vehicle to Henry’s Auto Detail for a complete restoration. We’ll dress the tires as part of a full wash and wax package. We use commercial grade tire dressing that produces long-lasting shine while also protecting the rubber.

Sick Car Syndrome: How Your Car Can Make You Sick

sick car syndromeThe inside of your car is a haven for germs and bacteria. If you drive a lot and are frequently sick with the cold or flu, then your car may be the cause. This is known as sick car syndrome, and we’ll explain how an interior vehicle detail can fix this issue.

Sick Car Syndrome Explained

Here is a fun fact: the average car steering wheel is nine times dirtier than a toilet seat. The steering wheel can harbor about 700 strains of bacteria, vs 60 for a toilet seat. How are steering wheels this dirty? Car owners often eat in their car. Besides that, the interior is a small enclosed area that is seldom cleaned. These factors combined are a recipe for grime.

Air Conditioner Clean-Up a Must Before Summer

The AC, though, is what is really causing sick car syndrome. When you run the air conditioner, condensation forms in the evaporator. The accumulated moisture encourages mold growth. The air eventually blows some of that mold into the cabin, where it rests on the upholstery, dashboard, etc.

Your car is likely infested with germs if you notice any of these symptoms during a commute:

  • Coughing
  • Eye irritation
  • Wheezing
  • Sneezing
  • Chest tightening
  • Eye irritation

You’ll likely be using your AC more now that summer is almost here. We recommend cleaning or replacing the filter if it’s due for a change. We also recommend a professional interior restoration. This includes a full cleaning and shampooing of the seats using a solution that kills bacteria on contact.

We’ll Detail Your Car Interior

Bring your car to Henry’s Auto Detail before leaving for any long summer road trips. We’ll not only clean your car, we’ll also remove all invisible traces of mold, mildew and germs. We recommend an interior detail as part of a wash and wax. Sick car syndrome is real and can compromise your health.  Contact us today!

Increase Car Value: Have Your Car Detailed

increase car value

More motorists are holding onto their cars longer due to advancements in modern automobiles. However, keeping a vehicle longer also means more exposure to dings, dents, and scratches. Have you wondered whether detailing can increase car value when you’re ready to sell?

The Value of a Car Detail–It’s Beyond Curbside Appeal

Your car’s value is dependent primarily on the condition of its parts, which is why you get your oil changed, your tires rotated and replaced, and those odd noises checked out.

A vehicle detailing, though, can play a secondary factor, especially when trading in your car at a dealership. A dealer will list the car as in excellent, good, fair, or poor condition based on Kelley Blue Book guidelines. A dealer will look hard for even small imperfections to lower your vehicle’s classification and reduce the trade-in value.  Dealers look for mechanical defects first, but after that, they look for faded paint, clouded headlights, nicks, and other surface-level blemishes. A dealer may list a car as poor if—aside from major operational defects—it has clear signs of oxidized paint, rust, medium-sized dents, upholstery stains, etc.

Your vehicle doesn’t have to be perfect to acquire an excellent condition rating. You may be able to get away with a few light scratches and dents if everything else gets a thumbs up.

We Increase Car Value with a Professional Detailing

Although a simple detail or wash and wax probably won’t elevate your car from poor to excellent, bringing your vehicle to Henry’s Auto Detail for a restoration before putting it up for sale can make a big difference, provided all major parts are in working condition.  Contact us today to set an appointment, and be sure to check out our special offers for great deals on the services customers ask for most often.

Ink Stain Removal: Can You Remove Ink from Car Upholstery?

ink stainA pen in your pocket can break, causing the ink to spill into your trousers and leak onto the car seat. Likewise, your children may treat your car seat as a doodling canvas. Fortunately, ink stain removal is possible with the right knowledge and supplies.

Facts About Ink Stains

Ink consists of a combination of dyes, pigments, and solvents that can cause permanent discoloration on most fabrics. This is why immediate treatment is necessary. Once the stain dries, restoration will require professional remediation.

The removal process is also a bit trickier because we’re dealing with an inorganic stain. This contrasts with organic stains like those made by food or spilled coffee, which are easier to remove. Nevertheless, it can be done if you act immediately using the steps below.

There are two separate processes. One for leather seats and the other for fabrics.

Step-by-step Ink Stain Removal Process

Leather Upholstery

  1. Blot at the stain using a clean cloth or paper towel. The keyword here is “blot.” Do not scrub because this will only spread the stain.
  2. Apply an ink stain remover. Several options are available here, including baking soda, vinegar, rubbing alcohol, and nail polish remover.
  3. Wipe using a fresh cloth.
  4. Apply a leather conditioner to the seat. This acts as a barrier that prevents liquids from embedding themselves into the surface.

Fabric Upholstery

  1. Blot at the stain using a clean cloth
  2. Dab at the stain using a cloth lightly moistened with rubbing alcohol
  3. Rinse using a cloth moistened with cold water

Leave the Ink Stain Removal to Us

The year is still young. Make a resolution to take better care of your car. This includes regular car washes and the occasional vehicle detail. Leave the ink stain removal to Henry’s Auto Detail if DIY treatment yields subpar results.
