Washing a car isn’t rocket science. At the same time, it’s also not as simple as rinsing and scrubbing. For best results, don’t fall for any of the common car washing myths that can keep you from really having a clean vehicle.
Myth #1: You Can Wash the Car Anytime
You can certainly wash your vehicle anytime of the day. However, we don’t recommend a car wash immediately after driving the car. The same goes if the car is parked in direct sunlight. The car surface will be hot, meaning water will dry faster, leading to more pronounced water spots.
Myth #2: A Shiny Car Is a Clean Car
A car can be sparkly yet still be dirty. Run a finger over the car’s surface. If it’s really clean, it will feel smooth like glass. If you feel small bumps, dirt still lingers. You’ll need to use a clay bar to remove stubborn dirt and debris before applying wax.
Myth #3: Wax Lasts for Five Years
Irrespective of what the manufacturer claims, no waxing lasts for five years, or even a single year. Environmental conditions determine how often you need to reapply wax. We recommend wax and polish every three months, or twice a year at a minimum. Waxing is an integral part of the restoration process.
Myth #4: Only Wash Your Car When It’s Dirty
You should wash your car at least twice a month and not just when dirt is noticeable. Dirt and dust accumulation, even when not overtly visible, can erode the wax and damage the paint’s finish.
